Hortense de Beauharnais’s Diamond-gold encrusted Hunter Watch

Hortense Eugénie Cécile de Beauharnais, Princesse Française is the Queen of Holland and the Grand Duchess of Berg and Cleves, Duchess of Saint-Leu . She was the wife of Louis Bonaparte, King of Holland and the mother of Napoleon III, Emperor of the French.

Christie will featured the pocket watch next month in Geneva and put up for sale.According to the auction house, and is estimated to fetch $169,945-$340,000


Included in the auction are the historical 18K gold, enamel and diamond-set hunter case 'petite souscription à tact watch. The hunter watch was made for Josephine Bonaparte, Empres of France and given Hortense de Beauharnais Signed Breguet, No. 611, made for Madame Bonaparte and sold to her in 1800.

Another in her collection is the Hortense Diamond. This peach colored stone was named after Hortense de Beauharnais, Queen of Holland, who was Josephine's daughter and the stepdaughter of Napoleon Bonaparte. The Hortensia had been part of the French Crown Jewels since Louis XIV bought it. You can see the Hortensia on display in the Louvre, Paris.
